"in everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." - 1 Thessalonian 5:18. Is that really what we are supposed to do? In everything? What about war? What about earthquakes? What about death?
In everything give thanks - why? The answer lies in the rest of the verse - You are putting your trust in God's will. And lest you think that will is hard and unfeeling and uncaring, it is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
God's will is always a function of John 3:16 - for God so loved ... that he gave.
