Majoring on the Minors

When the troups of Mahomet II surrounded Constantinople in 1493 and it had to be decided if the Balkans would be under Christian or Mohammedan dominion for centuries, a local church council in the besieged city disussed the following problems: What color had the eyes of the Virgin Mary? What gender do the angels have? If a fly falls in sanctified water, is the fly sanctified or is the water defiled? {Richard Wurmbrand - quoted in The American Prophecies by Michael D Evan}

We live in Constantinople today! Around us, there are groups which would tear down the family, tear down morality, tear down our freedoms and tear down our faith.

There are one Billion Muslims in this world with 10% of them, 100 million, who would like to see America destroyed. Almost daily you will find the ACLU sueing someone for daring to express their faith. The American Bar Association is on the verge of declaring the Boy Scouts of America such a dangerous organization that no judge may dare be associated with it in any form!

Daily, there are thousands of people going into a Christless eternity. The number of unchurched in America has doubled since 1993! The population has not doubled during that time. As someone who firmly believes in the Bible, that means a lot of people spending a lot of time in hell. And that is a tragedy!

What are we in the church doing today? Where is our sense of urgency? Where are our tears before the Lord? I do not write this to condemn anyone who might read this, rather to express my anguish and concern over the church and over my own lack of fervency.

What does this mean for me? How do these thoughts inform my life habits? Do I spend my "free time" any different? Do I pray more, read the Bible more, witness more? God forgive and help me.

Well, time to go eat lunch.
